On Sunday 10th April 2011, 3 marathon virgins, Stephanie Topps, Gareth Jones and Penny Leigh from Liphook Hampshire, pounded the streets of Brighton to complete the Brighton Marathon on behalf of the ELIFAR Foundation.
The course was a challenging route of 26.2 miles through the town centre, across the South Downs and then finally along the sunny seaside promenade, finishing on Marine Parade by the Palace Pier. The trio not only worked hard in training and on the day, but to supplement the valuable sponsorship monies, they organised additional fundraising events such as a ‘Pampered Chef/Christmas gifts luncheon in November, and a dinner dance at The Old Thorns Country Club in March with a an auction and raffle to raise an astonishing £12,000 overall.
More astonishingly since recovering, they have all signed up to do the Great South Run in October and have entered the general ballot in the hope of places to run the London Marathon 2012 all in aid of the ELIFAR Foundation.
