So what is the Elifar Challenge? First and foremost it’s a great corporate day, both competitive and fun in equal measures.
But most importantly, it’s an opportunity to have fun, fly the flag for your company and at the same time help a fantastic charity improve the lives of children and adults with severe learning difficulties and associated physical disabilities.

On Sunday 15th April 2012 a team of 10 runners will be taking to the streets of Brighton to raise money on behalf of the ELIFAR foundation in the 3rd Brighton Marathon.
The team is made up of Gareth Jones who is completing this event for the second time on our behalf, and hoping to beat his time of 5hrs 45mins, Kai Jeans from Eaton House Schools, our intrepid explorer James Ketchell, Stephen Cracknell a relative of one of the Trustees, and a group of six work colleagues from MacDonald & Co, including Philip Percival, Mike Magill, Andrew Posner, Richard Parrett, George Knuff and Tom Chalton.

The runners have been training for this event over the last few months and we wish them luck and health in their challenge to conquer the challenging course of 26.2 miles, in and around the sights of Brighton and its suburbs.
Should you wish to sponsor them in their challenge please do so via : http://www.justgiving.com/elifarfoundation/donate

In June 2011, on a very wet and windy Sunday a team of 1 so called cyclists set off on a 25 mile cycle ride around the countryside surrounding Liphook in Hampshire, on a Charity Bike Ride orgainised by LiDBA , (Liphook and District Businessman’s Association).

Despite the appalling conditions the team were extremely high spirited and all completed with the exception of Andy, who unfortunately suffered a severe puncture in the last 5 miles of the race, and had to be rescued and driven to the finish.
Our sincere thanks go to the team for their hard work and determination of the behalf of the Foundation and for raising in excess of £800 : Philip Leigh, Thomas Leigh, Steph Topps, Stuart Mackrell, Diane Dobson, Tim Dormer, Andy Hutton, Jake Hutton, Mark Leigh, Joanne Leigh, Diana Pont and Penny Leigh.
First and foremost this event is a great corporate day, both competitive and fun in equal measures.
It’s an opportunity to compete in a corporate ‘sports day’ with teams from other companies in a range of activities, sporting, team building and intelligence testing!
But most importantly, it’s an opportunity to have fun, fly the flag for your company and at the same time help a fantastic charity improve the lives of children and adults with severe learning difficulties and associated physical disabilities.
Following a day of intense competition and unpredictable but glorious weather, Aviva/Capital & Regional were crowned Champions of the 2010 Elifar Challenge. In total 12 teams participated and their efforts with the help of the events sponsors resulted in a contribution in the region of £34,000 to the Elifar Foundation.
The next ELIFAR challenge will take place on the 8th of June 2011 and just about anyone can take part!
If your company can raise a team of seven competitors (six active participants, one of whom must be female, plus a non-playing captain) we’d love to hear from you. The cost of entering is £2,500 per team.
Alternatively, you could become one of the events sponsors who support the individual events and competitions each year or you could be one of the many helpers and games adjudicators. No matter what your input, you can be rest assured that all the monies raised will go towards making the life of someone with disabilities a much happier and enjoyable one.
Interested then give us a call.
On Sunday 10th April 2011, 3 marathon virgins, Stephanie Topps, Gareth Jones and Penny Leigh from Liphook Hampshire, pounded the streets of Brighton to complete the Brighton Marathon on behalf of the ELIFAR Foundation.
The course was a challenging route of 26.2 miles through the town centre, across the South Downs and then finally along the sunny seaside promenade, finishing on Marine Parade by the Palace Pier.
The trio not only worked hard in training and on the day, but to supplement the valuable sponsorship monies, they organised additional fundraising events such as a ‘Pampered Chef/Christmas gifts luncheon in November, and a dinner dance at The Old Thorns Country Club in March with a an auction and raffle to raise an astonishing £12,000 overall.
More astonishingly since recovering, they have all signed up to do the Great South Run in October and have entered the general ballot in the hope of places to run the London Marathon 2012 all in aid of the ELIFAR Foundation.

We have benefitted from the sponsorship of MacDonald and Co for the best art of 5 years, during which they have raised over £67,000. In 2010 they donated nearly £15,000 through The Calendonian Challenge, a quiz night, payroll giving and their Managing Director Peter Moore’s Summer of madness succession of sporting events.
In 2011 the team is set to walk 60 miles of Hadrian’s Wall dressed as a Roman legion. If you would like to sponsor them please do so via http://www.justgiving.com/MacdonaldandCompany
In 2012 Mike Magil, Andrew Posner and Phil Percival have all volunteered to embark on the tough training programme in order to run the Brighton Marathon for us.
THANK YOU AND GOOD LUCK!!
Every year for the last 10 years a group of dedicated ELIFAR supporters have participated in a charity 25 mile bike ride based around the Surrey and Hampshire Borders.
Last year was no exception, an unusually small team of 8 children and adults took on the task of completing the hilly countryside course on what was a very hot and sunny day in June. Despite all the challenges and pain it caused they all finished and managed to raise a fantastic £695. – Congratulations and Thank you to all the riders !!!!!

Tom raised £1,119 on a 50 mile overnight walk from Brighton back to school, Charterhouse in Godalming in June 2010. It is a tradition for the lower sixth to do every year and Tom elected to raise funds for the Elifar Foundation at the same time. The students were dropped off at 4pm and 18 hours and 49 minutes later Tom made it back!
On completion of the walk the students were awarded a special tie by the school in recognition of their achievement.
Well Done Tom !
